WHY CUSTOMERS CALL US

Three reasons people pick

up the phone today.

Most enquiries come from one of three places. Which one sounds like you?

Skin & eczema

My daughter’s eczema flares up every winter.

Hard water doesn’t cause eczema but it makes the skin barrier work harder. Most parents we install for tell us the flares are visibly less frequent within 3 months.

Limescale everywhere

“I’m constantly cleaning taps, kettles and shower screens. It comes back within a week.”

The visible cost — limescale on every surface that touches your water. A softener stops it at source. Hours of weekly cleaning return to your evenings.

Appliances and Bills

My boiler died at 7 years old. The plumber said it was the hardness.

Hard water silently destroys boilers, washing machines, dishwashers and kettles 25–40% earlier than they should. Most households tell us they wish they’d installed a softener three years earlier.

The cost of hard water

Limescale is quietly costing you £700 to £1,100 a year.

Oxfordshire sits over chalk and limestone aquifers. Thames Water hardness averages 302 ppm — well into the “very hard” range. The cost shows up everywhere.

£420

Boiler efficiency loss

Limescale on the heat exchanger forces your boiler to work harder. A 6mm scale layer increases fuel costs by up to 30%.

£280

Appliance lifespan

Washing machines, dishwashers and kettles fail 25–40% earlier in hard-water homes. Replacement costs add up fast.

£200+

Detergents and cleaning

You use up to twice as much soap, shampoo, washing powder, and limescale remover. Plus the hours scrubbing taps and shower screens.

THE 5-YEAR COST OF DOING NOTHING

The cost of hard water compounds. Every. Single. Year.

Oxfordshire sits over chalk and limestone aquifers. Thames Water hardness averages 302 ppm — well into the “very hard” range. The cost shows up everywhere.

Most customers we install for tell us they wish they’d done it three years earlier.

BEFORE & AFTER

What soft water actually looks like.

Oxfordshire sits over chalk and limestone aquifers. Thames Water hardness averages 302 ppm — well into the “very hard” range. The cost shows up everywhere.

Shower head

The most visible difference. Limescale blockage gone within weeks. Water pressure restored.

Kettle

No more white flakes in your tea. No more weekly descaling. Element lasts twice as long.

Shower screen

The hours of scrubbing limescale stains end here. Glass stays clear with a basic wipe-down.

All figures based on actual cost analysis from Purer Aqua surveys in 2025–2026. Yours will vary — the savings calculator above gives you your personal estimate.

No national overhead

One regional team, not a national footprint. No regional managers, no national marketing department.

No commission salespeople

The person quoting your install earns the same whether you sign today or not at all.

No call centres

You call us, you reach us. No call queues, no script-reading agents passing you between departments.

Local installers

Self-employed Oxfordshire tradespeople. No travel costs absorbed into your quote.

Lean operation

Founder-led. Two people running everything. Every pound is accounted for and visible.

WHY WE COST LESS

£300–£700 less than national operators. Five reasons.

Anonymised from our last 100 surveys. These are the actual numbers each household was paying — and how quickly the softener paid back.

MEET THE FOUNDERS

We're Xan and Piers.

After living with Oxfordshire’s hard water for years and watching national operators charge our neighbours £2,000+ through high-pressure doorstep sales, we’d had enough. The product is good. The category is real. The way it was sold wasn’t.

We started Purer Aqua to do this the way we’d want to be sold to ourselves. Transparent pricing on the website. A 45-minute survey, not a hour-and-a-half pitch. A fixed quote you take home and think about. And a managed salt subscription so you never have to remember to lift a 25kg bag from B&Q.

No pressure. No gimmicks. No moving prices. Just properly installed water softeners by local people who pick up the phone.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How hard is your bit of Oxfordshire?

Does my home need an electrical socket near the install?

No. Purer Aqua softeners are non-electric — they run on your mains water pressure. They fit under a standard kitchen sink with no power requirement.

Typically 2 to 3 hours. We arrive in the morning, isolate the mains supply, fit the bypass valve, run the drain pipe, pressure-test the system, and commission it. You’ll have soft water before lunch.

Branded Purer Aqua food-grade salt delivered every 8 weeks by Direct Debit at £33 per delivery. The driver tops up your softener, takes the empties, and runs a quick visual check on the system. Pause, skip or change frequency anytime via our customer portal.

Parts, labour and water-damage cover for 10 years from install. Our guarantee is insurance-backed by Retramax, so it survives even if Pure Aqua doesn’t. Certificate provided with every install.

Soft water has a slightly different feel and may taste subtly different to those who notice. We always leave your kitchen tap on the original hard supply for drinking water — that’s how our installs are designed.

A typical family of four uses one 25kg bag every 6 to 8 weeks — around £15 to £20 a month including delivery on our subscription. A smaller household (1 to 2 people) uses materially less; a larger one (5+) uses more. The savings calculator above factors all of this into your annual cost.

Scale inhibitors (magnetic or electronic) try to change the structure of the calcium in your water so it sticks less. They reduce scale build-up to varying degrees but they do not remove the hardness minerals — your water is still hard. A softener removes the calcium and magnesium entirely, which is why you get the soft-skin, no-cleaning, longer-appliance-life outcomes. Scale inhibitors are cheaper to install (£100–£300) but they don’t deliver the same outcomes and they don’t carry the same long-term financial saving.

Our published £1,695 is consistently £300–£700 below typical Harvey quotes in Oxfordshire (verified by mystery-shop January 2026). We publish our price because we’re confident in it.
